***STOP THE PRESS I’VE FINALLY REPLIED!***
Hey chickadee! Took my time, I know, but life sort of reared it’s ugly head and got in the way a bit so my blog had to fall a bit by the wayside. However, I’m now back with a vengeance!
Or not. I’m not even sure I know the meaning of “a vengeance”! But in response to your last letter I have answered some questions for you! Here goes…
1. Who are your top three lady heroes?
Oh good grief, where to start?! Well, first off The Mothership. Because who gets to 20-something relatively sane without their Mothership to thank, really?!
Clare Balding – she has so much energy, knowledge, talent and bravery that I just can’t not love her!
And finally Claudia Winkleman. She’s orange and she looks like a panda and she doesn’t care because she likes herself that way and that’s all that matters to her. And I have a lot of time for that. She’s also bloody funny.
2. When you were little, what did you want to be?
A snowman. Problem there is that in the UK you’re almost guaranteed 364 days of unemployment a year.
3. Who do you think should run for President in two years? (I’m inclined to change this to Prime Minister…but let’s face it we get zero say in you leads the UK political parties!)
Hugh Grant, because even as a fictional character he was better than any of the current options!
4. What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year? Ever?
This year would have to be American Sniper – aside from being a very in-depth account of what it is like to be at war, it also really made me question my own attitudes towards what is right, what is wrong and the differences between good and evil.
And ever? Anything Roald Dahl ever wrote, OR the whole Harry Potter series. I can’t choose between them, but the creativity involved in all of those books is just astonishing and I really wish everyone allowed their imaginations to run as free as these authors and wrote down what came to mind. I think the world would be totally bonkers but all the better for it.
5. What makes you feel afraid?
Someone else dying whilst I’m away. Sorry, bit morbid.
6. Would you rather get lunch with Gillian Flynn or J. K. Rowling?
J. K. Rowling, because I’ve read her stuff and I’ve not read Gillian Flynn’s books so that would just be a bit awkward!
7. What’s your most embarrassing childhood memory?
I farted in PE when I was in year 3 and everybody laughed at me so then I cried, that was pretty embarrassing haha!
8. If you had the option of adopting a baby fox or a baby koala, which one would you choose? (Seriously, why is that even a question?!?!)
Baby koala, duh!!
9. What’s your dream job?
Mermaid. Or Princess. I’m not picky!
10. Who is your favourite mythological god/goddess?
OK so my knowledge of these things isn’t great, and is mainly based around who appears in Hercules! However, I do know that there was a Roman goddess called Minerva, and I do only know this because of my Harry Potter love! She was the goddess of wisdom, and then the sponsor of arts, trade and strategy…she sounds pretty cool!
11. Who was your first crush?
Gareth Gates. That gelled up, spiky hair…PHWOAR!
12. If you had to choose between using Internet Explorer forever, or permanently using an AOL email address, which one would it be?
Oh crumbs! I’d probably go for the AOL email address – I don’t get on very well with Internet Explorer these days, plus if I remember correctly with AOL if you had mail Joanna Lumley’s voice would pipe up and say “You have new messages” and I quite like her voice!
13. If you could be either a duck or an owl, which would you be?
An owl, because someone at university once pointed out to me that all ducks look as if they have ulterior motives and now I am of the same belief and so I just can’t bring myself to be a duck!
14. What do you love most about yourself?
My positivity and optimism – it’s less about looking at things with rose-tinted glasses, and more choosing to see the best in every situation I find 🙂
15. What don’t you like so much?
Well I, like your good self, suffer from being a ridiculous overthinker, but I think even worse than that is I can get irrationally jealous. It’s the ugliest part of me I swear, and not something I’m particularly proud of. But I’m aware of it I suppose, and that’s better than nothing so I can at least catch myself…even if it is a bit too late sometimes!
16. Rugrats or Doug?
Rugrats – back when cartoons were good!
17. Which house would you belong to in Game of Thrones? Like, very honestly.
Erm…Ravenclaw…?! Now is probably the time to confess I have never indulged in the Game of Thrones hype, and I just can’t bring myself to. I just don’t get it I’m afraid!
18. If you got a (new) tattoo, what would it be of?
Well, I have some thoughts on this! I’m hoping to get a poppy at some point this year, probably on my ribs or back somewhere. I’d also like a butterfly or some wings (haven’t decided which yet) but I’m not sure where I’d get them. I have a rule, which is “if I can see it on my wedding day then it’s a no!”, and I do realise that’s a bit presumptuous because I may never get married! But it’s more the principle about if I were to get any tattoos I believe they should be for me, and not because I want people to see them if that makes sense? 🙂
19. What would you like to eat for your last meal?
Jacket potato with beans and cheese! And as it would be my last meal I’d have butter on the potato and I’d ask for ketchup too because by that point, who’s judging?! 😛
20. If you had to be on a reality TV show, which one would you choose?
Strictly Come Dancing! I’m not a fan of reality TV as you know, so Strictly is probably pushing the definitions a little but I’m the one writing these answers so I figure I make the rules, so I choose Strictly!
21. Who has influenced you the most?
Women. YAY FOR BROAD ANSWERS! But it’s so hard to narrow it down, and I’m a big believer in the power of women because when you look at everything we’ve achieved over the years as a species against all the odds then it really is quite inspiring. And it shouldn’t stop with our generation so I try to take those women, their stories and achievements that inspire me and use that to influence my life choices, decisions and views.
22. What are your favourite lyrics?
“And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance,
I hope you dance.”
23. Real jeans or jeggings?
Jeggings…they allow for a fat day, real jeans definitely don’t!
24. On the first day of ruling the world, what would you do?
We actually had the same thought for this one – I was going to say make all vaccinations compulsory and accessible for everyone. I might expand mine to healthcare instead, I’d make healthcare free and accessible to all. And then I’d do the same with education.
25. If you were forced to open a bakery, what would you name it?
OK I don’t like how this question is worded, because ‘forced’ makes it sound like a chore and I actually really want to open my own bakery! As a result I don’t actually want to share the name or any of the ideas I have for it because someone might steal them and then that would make me sad!
(Paranoid?! Me?! NEVER!)
26. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done on a date?
It wasn’t really a date, more we were just chilling at my house, but me and my at the time boyfriend were making chocolate brownies, only we didn’t read the recipe properly and put the eggs in the wrong mixture at completely the wrong time and as a result they scrambled! Whoops!
(I realise I probably shouldn’t be giving that answer straight after laying out my plans to open a bakery in the future. My baking skills have improved tenfold since, I swear!)
27. What do you hope to achieve by 50?
Oh see this is really hard because I don’t even have a five year plan, let alone know what I want to achieve by 50! I guess to be able to look back and not have any regrets. That’s not to say I won’t have made mistakes, but to be able to look back and know I always made the best of a bad situation.
Like glittering a turd, basically!
28. What has been your best moment this year (so far)?
Oh crumbs where do I start?! Well New Year’s Day on Bondi beach was pretty epic! But then so was going to the Australian Open…AND celebrating Australia Day in Australia with some amazing new friends. Not to mention going to the Melbourne Grand Prix and seeing The Parentals for the first time in five months…can I have all of them please?!
29. Would you rather be stuck in traffic for two hours, or have Chipotle run out of guacamole forever?
OK I have no idea who or what Chipotle are but no one should ever have to run out of guacamole, so I’ll take one for the team and get stuck in traffic for two hours!
30. Why are you so amazing?!
You’re right this question is ridiculously hard! How do you answer it without sounding big-headed?! My take on this is that in part we’re all a reflection of who we are surrounded by and I have some pretty epic people in my life who are just intrinsically kind, generous, loyal and selfless to inspire me. In addition to that I think I just know how lucky I am to live the life that I do and I think it would be a darn shame to waste that being miserable and grumpy the whole time and frolicking in negativity. So instead I make the conscious choice every morning to be the best possible version of myself that I can be, and hope that it rubs off on those around me! 🙂
Well that was all rather therapeutic! Plus some of them were harder than I anticipated…I’ve never really had to think about what my favourite lyrics are before!
If I’m not very much mistaken the ball is back in your court for the next Dear Kate / Dear Lauren series, so I very much look forward to your next letter and what you have to say!
Until next time amigo,
